Antoinette Zwirchmayr’s work consists of concise juxtapositions that reveal sensitive relationships between human beings, objects and nature. Her lyrical visual compositions show vulnerable surfaces separating the inner from the outer, where she examines stereotypical ideas of physique and identity. The reduced formal aesthetic that she employs is marked by a critical ambivalence and directs the viewer’s attention to details that are correlated in the transient and physical quality of analog film. LOUVRE LOVER
The artist duo joechlTRAGSEILER realized an extraordinary art project in December 2017. During a 25 days long trip they traveled from Vienna to Genoa, where they took a cruise liner through the Suez Canal and traveling from Qatar to Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, where Jean Nouvel’s Louvre was recently opened. The unrelenting strive after gigantomania by the global museum enterprise was the conscious focus of the 25 days long performance. Following their artisticpractice, at each station during the trip and on the cruise liner, joechlTRAGSEILER realized artistic interventions in the form of performance art. The inflatable logo “LOUVRE” was a constant companion during this process. By filling it with helium and installing it at various geographic and formal places, the artists explored the icon's symbolic capital in the Arabic world.
