Synthesizers became popular in the 60s when musicians and scientists tried to find a way to play or record a song without being dependent on other musicians.
These synthesizers were quite expensive and not everyone was able to afford one.

A new era in musical history arose when companies started to produce less expensive synths in the 70s. About 10 years later digital synthesizers were invented and flooded the market. Now it was and fortunately still is possible for everyone to create their own electronic music.

Synthetic sounds are present almost whenever we listen to music. There are thousands of different ways to create it easily with just some moves or clicks.

In our workshop, we are going to focus on analog sound synthesis using a Korg MS 20 synthesizer as a test object. We will explore terms like ADSR, LFO, VCO, square tooth, VCF, pulse width, etc. to find out how a synth generates sound and how you can process these signals to get the sonority you're looking for or what you've never expected to find.
