A new exhibition series "Urgent Perspectives" is an ambulatory exhibition format within the framework of the AIR Mentoring Program of the Federal Chancellery / KulturKontakt Austria, which stimulates a polylog between artists-in-residence and Austrian artists. "Urgent Perspectives" will take place at changing exhibition venues in Vienna using existing networks and resources.

The ambivalence of "urgent", what we perceive as short-term needs, and "perspectives" that are usually long-term, point to the contradiction with which we are confronted in our daily actions. In "Urgent Perspectives", the limited amount of temporary status of AIR artists coincides with the duration of local artists. Both states, however, are fluid and temporary, as they only describe the moment of the meeting. This moment brings with it a culmination of exchange that extends beyond the short-term encounter of an exhibition.

The different working methods and projects of the artists serve as a dispositive in order to reflect "urgent perspectives" from their respective backgrounds. Thus, the exhibition series becomes a cumulative process on issues of "urgency" and "perspectives" that reflect the spectrum of their own artistic concerns to the role of art in society.

For "Urgent Perspectives # 1", all artists have developed new works that they regard as the starting point for further work or with which they will continue existing processes. Different forms of gestures are a consistent motif in their artistic approaches.

Participating artists:
Dalila Gonçalves (PT), Vida Guzmić (HR), Nika Kupyrova (A), Gabriele Sturm (A)

Kuratiert von: Barbara Holub
