John M Armleder. 5 Years Birthday of Viennese
John M Armleder, GOLD FISH, 2016
John M Armleder, born in 1948, lives and works in New York and Geneva.
Armleder, Swiss citizen with American mother tongue, has been playing a vital role in the development of international artistic practice over the past fifty years. Like no other, he combines and transforms in his manifold oeuvre the picture worlds of the twentieth and the beginning of the twenty-first century, historical modernism and mass culture.
With his editions SILVER FISH and GOLD FISH, Armleder pays homage to Gustav Klimt – as he already did with his exhibition at the Vienna Secession, in 1993 – and for the exhibition FISH he creates furniture sculptures, among other things, incorporating Walter Pichler‘s legendary Galaxy Chair and the Cubus sofa by Carl Auböck II.
