Alina Kunitsyna In The Fold
"In the Fold," the title of the exhibition, refers directly to the fold as a represented object, which has always had a great presence in Kunitsyna's work as a subject, and on the other hand to the representation of fidelity, love, and peace on the subjective level of meaning.
The paintings and sculptures exhibited are, in fact, only contexts of form, which have arisen from philosophical considerations in the fields of logic, ethics, and metaphysics.
Kunitsyna's work is a testimony to consistent, intensive observation and is characterized by formal precision. In her pictorial compositions, she creates tension fields between body and space, whereby the abandoned sheaths can be interpreted as a metaphor for a membrane between the inner and the outer.
The abandoned envelopes are reminiscent of absent bodies, whose presence Silvie Aigner describes as follows: "The question of the persons through whom these (...) garments were undoubtedly shaped (...) is realized by reference to their absence."
Alina Kunitsyna born 1981 in Minsk, Belarus, lives and works in Vienna and Damtschach.
