EVA-MARIA SCHALLER & MATTHIAS KRANEBITTER pres. unRavel / Bolero for 2
The Bolero, originally composed by Maurice Ravel for Ida Rubinstein, a dancer of the ballets russe, is broken down in this version for solo cello and dance on his "skeleton" maintaining the musical structure and the idea of a steady increase.
Eva Maria Schaller - Dance, choreography
Maiken Beer - Violoncello
Matthias Kranebitter - Electronics
The starting point for this duo concerto for solo cello and dance is Maurice Ravel's well-known Impressionist piece of music. In this version, the original is adapted or re-composed, maintaining the musical structure and the idea of a steady increase.
The movement material comes into direct confrontation with the musical template and plays with the notion of expressionism in dance. An almost childish inner freedom and a conscious form of possible unchaining, physical intensity, repetition, accumulation, and abstract musical movement merge in this piece to an urgency of expression.
