This exhibition at ALBERTINA MODERN brings together two “grand masters” of optical illusion, presenting their works in a dynamic, multifaceted dialogue. Victor Vasarely’s multilayered oeuvre, with its hypnotic motifs, pulsating shapes, and flickering patterns, challenges our sense of sight while anticipating the aesthetics of video games—visual effects now typically generated by computers.
The powerful colors of his precise geometric patterns, along with the stark contrasts of his black-and-white works, remain enduring elements of aesthetic innovation. Complementing Vasarely, the works of Marc Adrian explore motion in art, reflecting the pioneering vision of the artist whom Peter Weibel famously called the “father of media art.” Together, their works create a compelling conversation on perception, movement, and the evolving language of optical experience.
