The group exhibition presents artists based in Austria and Japan whose practices examine the formation of cultural identity, invisible boundaries, and social frameworks such as nationality, ethnicity, race, and gender. Using various mediums, the artists explore the current social situations by interweaving historical fragments to create a potential new narrative, trace the personal stories and memory of a place, and transform existing structures to seek new forms of expression. In doing so, the exhibition unfolds various aspects of relationality that have been shaped through the turbulence of modern history.
The title refers metaphorically to diplomatic relations. Trading has been constructing the geopolitical complexities of today’s world by circulating capitals - commodities, labour, as well as knowledge.
With such changing constructs, how can we stand on common ground? Parallax Trading attempts to undo dominant norms, retell stories, and ultimately to generate multiple interpretations.

„Study for refraction and rotary motion”, a site-specific intervention by Mario de Vega

Approaching acoustic phenomena as medium —both, conceptually and physically—, Mario de Vega has developed an artistic practice investigating affective qualities of sound to regulate performative situations and perceptual experiences. Specifically designed for the circular exhibition area of das weisse haus, “Study for refraction and rotary motion”, is a sound installation that relates to the principle of Current Flow.
