The origins of the Argentinian scissor dance “danza de las tijeras”, which features in François Chaignaud’s latest piece, go back to a pact with diabolical mountain spirits. Together with video artist Nina Laisné, Argentinian singer Nadia Larcher and six wonderful musicians, the French artist introduces his audience to the plethora of hellishly good South American folklore choreographies – zambas, chacareras and huaynos. Two mystical hybrid creatures begin in the first part of this “expedition through the anatomy of the devil” (Chaignaud) before plunging into a veritable fireworks display of spirited dances.
