Alony / Preuschl / Dés Off, To New Horizons Sam's Bar Opening Concert
The award-winning Israeli singer Efrat Alony has now become one of the most important voices in European jazz. Alony stands for unconventional, independent, and high-quality music with her artistic profile. Her second-to-last album, Hollywood Isn't Calling, was awarded the German Jazz Prize 2022 for Best Vocal Album of the Year, and the track My shorthand Modes of Perception was nominated for Best Composition.
Her new album, Handel – Fast Forward, has also been celebrated by the press and honored with the prestigious "Opus Klassik Award 2024" in the "Classical without Borders" category. Alony's new interpretations of Handel's arias impressed the jury in this category—a testament to her unique vision and creativity.
Repetition is out of the question for the artist. For Alony, jazz—and art itself—means always taking risks, asking questions, breaking down structures, and yes, why not even contradicting one’s former self at some point? For Alony, art is about movement and fearlessness. Now, the musical cards have been reshuffled—with new extraordinary protagonists coming together: Raphael Preuschl on bass and András Dés on drums create an exciting interplay, full of bubbling lightness and creativity, pointing toward new musical horizons that allow Alony's poetry to unfold even more dynamically.
Her powerful, soulful voice can effortlessly slip into a wide variety of characters and emotions, constantly taking on new forms. The new trio, with its boundless vitality, brings both strength and fragility: a clever and thrilling play of contrasts and depth with a playful wink.
