Walter Vopava "moi non-moi"

Walter Vopava was born in 1948 in Vienna. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, lives and works in Vienna and Berlin. He is a member of the artists' association MAERZ in Linz and the association of visual artists, Vienna Secession, in Vienna.
Vopava's painting is strongly influenced by opposites and tensions: the black is set as a contrast to the brighter color, but at the same time it leads to a dialogue with it. Thus, he makes it clear that categories that seem to be absolutely absolute - as here the darkness - are only comprehensible in relation to their antithesis. In his work, he does not proceed from an idea that is illustrated, but it is produced in reverse only during painting. Nevertheless, his painting withdraws from arbitrariness, since it is initially oriented towards a certain system, but this can never be absolutely valid.
