Rachel Whiteread is one of the leading international artists of her generation. She was born in 1963 in London, was the first woman to win the prestigious Turner Prize in 1993, and in 1997 represented Great Britain at the Venice Biennale. For over three decades, Rachel Whiteread has materialized the intangible. It makes casts of cavities, making the void visible. At the same time, her sculptures also awaken memories of irretrievably lost things. In Vienna, she is best known for her Holocaust Memorial at Judenplatz. The British artist has thus made a lasting mark on the city and changed the memory discourse. In conversation with British curator Ann Gallagher (Tate Britain, London), Rachel Whiteread talks about her artistic career, focusing on individual works in the exhibition.
