One and Three Chairs
The traveling sculpture One and Three Chairs by Michael Riedel is based on the common misunderstanding that the famous major work of the same name by the concept artist Joseph Kosuth comprises four chairs. While Kosuth created his work by assembling a chair, a photographic depiction of a chair and a dictionary definition of the word ‘chair’, Riedel borrows these individual elements yet adds to them four chairs that are occupied during the performance by four people who discuss the work, the context, and the concept.
Michael Riedel in collaboration with Barbara Rüdiger, Sabine Schaschl, Vitus H. Weh and Luisa Ziaja.
