The MUSA Media Art Prize of the City of Vienna in 2016 is awarded to the artist SUSANNE SCHUDA. In her videos, texts, digital collages, interactive installations and performances, Susanne Schuda focuses on psychological dynamics, the construction of reality as well as the positioning of the individual in social contexts.

Media art is an exciting, avant-garde genre that often reflects in a surprising way the upheavals of our current media society. The artistic, innovative approach to the possibilities of the new media is the focus here and regularly raises societal issues in this broad field. For this reason, this prize honours outstanding audiovisual artists for their overall work, which explicitly use the new media or deal with them critically. The Media Art Prize of the City of Vienna is a concrete measure for the visualisation and promotion of this art genre.

The MUSA Prize for Young Art has been awarded annually since 2014. Presented by the Cultural Department of the City of Vienna (Department of Fine Art), an independent expert advisers a prize of EUR 5,000 is awarded to young visual artists who presented a particularly successful exhibition in the MUSA launch gallery in previous year.

This year's award goes to Andreas Werner. His works revolve around the traditional theme of the landscape in a contemporary confrontation. At the same time, Werner struggles with aesthetic ease between abstraction and figuration, as well as between an idiosyncratic idyll and fictional utopia.
