Austrian Premiere / TQW co-production

Chaos causes anxiety. And today it no longer seems like a temporary state of emergency but an equally threatening as well as inevitable model for the future.

In ancient Greece, on the other hand, Khaos is an ambivalent figure. As a formless form and striving in the direction of a different one from what it already is, it also evokes the dimension of emergence, of the possible, of renewal.

In KHAOS, Laurent Chétouane brings together four dancers and three musicians to explore Khaos. On stage the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, Wolfgang Rihm and John Cage plays, which displays an affinity to uncontrollability. The turbulence zones in and between the pieces of music are the starting point for the emergence of unstable, threatening, destructive spaces, which both the performers and spectators are exposed to. In the process bodies emerge that have to discover new relationships to the space, to the others and to themselves in order not to completely fall victim to the blind and disparate forces of openness. In KHAOS the danger of the dissolution of the order of a world through chaos is explored as the chance to create multiple worlds – the attempt at a utopian present.
