On April 4th 2017, Salvatore Sciarrino celebrates his 70th birthday.
Salvatore Sciarrino, autodidact, is one of the greatest innovator of contemporary music. He himself stated: I had to start from scratch to deal with instruments with the help of an untouched hand and a virgin ear, on the basis of an experiment between primitivism, structure and futurism. On his 70th birthday, we’ll perform compositions dating from the 80s till today. One of his characteristics is the connection with and the reference to older epochs and cultures as well as fine musical textures and gestures. In the second part, you’ll hear Morton Feldman’s Why Patterns, inspired by Anatolian nomad carpets.
