The exhibition FENSTERSTURZ presents works by students which were developed in seminars by Klaus Filip and Nicolaj Kirisits at the Department of Digital Art in WS 16/17 and SS 17. The content of these sessions investigated the production of sound objects with a special focus on different temporal scales and, in a subsequent phase, linking these objects with gestural acts in space.

Unlike when sound is generated by a movement in space on acoustic instruments, the original relationship between the timbre, texture, and the spatial gesture that results from this movement is not present in computer music a priori.

This led to an exploration of issues relating to the design of the spectromorphological body and changes in the role of the form-giving spatial gesture in computer-generated music. It is no longer necessarily situated at the beginning of sound production, rather it can—as illustrated exemplarily in this exhibition—have a connection with a previously produced sound object, thereby again manifesting as a generative element but not as an essential formative parameter of the sound, rather as an independent, pure movement in space.
