Elisabeth Wedening: The running dog
The running dog refers to the fact that memories never stay the same, but alter during our process of remembering. Through highlighting certain elements, the stable memory structure transforms into being unstable. This allows rearrangements to take place and alter the content. The current version is saved and not the original one - that’s how copies come into being and copies of copies, letting the original content fade. The smaller the original element is, the bigger the range of possibilities for filling gaps.
The body of work consists of five large-scale paintings, all showing the same assembled details of memory from the second trip. The paintings are getting less concrete, the colour changes and a geometric shape is getting visible: Memories are fading more and more because the synaptic connections are getting weaker. The signal is losing its power and the memory gets fragile. While remembering, one can be very focussed on certain aspects: drawings are picking up parts of the large paintings.
