Fábio Baroli - GOLIATH
The Brazilian Artist-in-Residency Fábio Baroli uses painting as a support to develop his poetic language, which deals with the concepts of voyeurism and eroticism, vernacularism and children´s imaginary world. Although his works depict scenes from the life of inhabitants of the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais (Brazil), its themes are universal and far-reaching. During his stay in Vienna in February 2017, enabled by the Q21 Artists-in-Residence Program at MuseumsQuartier, Fábio Baroli will be showing in two distinct exhibitions at MuseumsQuartier.

With the opening on February 9th at 19:00, the exhibition Goliath will bring to Europe the series of oil paintings ‘Vendeta’ and ´Intifada’ produced between 2013 and 2016, which depict children in urban war situations with toy guns replacing real weapons. Curated by Pedro Henrique de Melo and in collaboration with Gallery Jan Arnold, the exhibition located at frei_raum Q21 exhibition space aims at fomenting a discussion around the plight of children in violent environments, an unfair battle fought by children vis-à-vis the tale of David and Goliath.

#Streetartpassage - Open Archive
The intention of the exhibition #Streetartpassage - “Open Archive“ at freir_aum Q21 exhibition space MuseumsQuartier Wien is to revisit a selection of works international artists have created during their residences at #Streetartpassage Vienna.
Since September 2008, more than 30 world renowned street artists such as Anthony Lister (AU), Invader (FR) and the local graffiti legend Busk (AT) - to name a few - have exhibited at the micro museum in public space at the back entrance of the world famous art complex. Curator Vitus Weh’s concept of #Streetartpassage has been continued by different curators and taken over by Sebastian Schager (Artis.love) in 2015. Each artist visit is now accompanied by a solo exhibition at Jan Arnold Gallery in combination with the Q21Artists-in-Residence Program at MuseumsQuartier as well as a specially produced original screen print by LeapArtPrints.com and other side projects. Also to be mentioned each year’s Betonblumen mini-magazine release. All previously published issues will also be on display and for sale.

Of 30 pieces made by the artists for #Streetartpassage about dozen remained stored in proper conditions and will be displayed along side with new artworks being panted during the Exhibition at frei_raum. What this exhibition proposes is to allow the public to revisit works as well as to see the process of new work being produced. We invited four local street artists to work inside the exhibition room and give a chance to the audience to experience the process first hand. Each new Street Art pieces will be shown in public space rotationally during 2017 (elevator shaft at MQ-Passage Breitegasse). Also stay tuned for the #Streetartpassage residencies in June and the artist Lush Sux (AU) who will visit Vienna in July 2017. You will find more detailed information about this in time on
