New territories always mean new challenges and opportunities. This applies to the designers and designers as well as to the institutions where they belong to such institutions should be. In times of an increasingly widespread concept of design, both sides often face the same questions: Specialization or universal training? humanistic basic knowledge or hands-on skills? Academic freedom or confrontation with economic realities? Many international design colleges are long-standing partners of VIENNA DESIGN WEEK. On this occasion, an international panel examines how universities position themselves in a design landscape modified by digitization. How do institutions sharpen their profile, which craftsmanship and what values do they want to convey to their students?

Panel discussion with
Herbert Grüner (New Design University (NDU) St. Pölten),
Agnieszka Jacobson-Cielecka (School of Form Poznań),
Christian Paul Kaegi (ECAL – University of Art and Design Lausanne),
James Tooze (Royal College of Art (RCA) London),
Oliver Kartak (Universität für Angewandte Kunst Wien)

Moderation: Thomas Geisler (Werkraum Bregenzerwald)
