Bárbara Moura. A Ribbon Around A Bomb
Solo exhibition of Bárbara Moura's illustrations
‘A RIBBON AROUND A BOMB’ were the words André Breton chose to describe Frida Kahlo’s artworks during the time of her first solo show in New York in 1938. The title is both an ode to the father of surrealism and to Frida Kahlo but also a powerful metaphor which functions as a perfect reminder of how art was and can always be a limitless weapon of political and emotional impact.
Bárbara Moura is an illustrator from Lisbon, Portugal.
She graduated in Film from the National Film School of Portugal and then moved to London where she did her MA Applied Imagination in The Creative Industries at Central Saint Martins. She currently lives in Vienna.
She is a full time dreamer who uses drawing as a way for political and emotional impact. The main subjects of her illustrations are usually feminism, sexuality, global problems or emotional struggles, often personalized by self-portraits.
Vernissage with music from all forgotten places by Giuseppe Leonardi (Tingel Tangel)
Special project realized for the exhibition:
"If you dare to really be, you'll be strong, shiny and colourful"
- embodiment of the power of the self - a tyvek sculpture tuned to the potency of female expression.
Designed and made by Erika Farina, an Italian soul based in Vienna.
The sculpture is designed in the way of a women’s armour, reminding Joan of Arc, connecting to feminism, one strong topic in Bárbara Moura’s art.
