ANDREA MAURER If What Could Be Is How Why Not

In this piece everything revolves around a monologue which repeats itself over and over again. While the monologue moves in a circular motion – word for word, sentence for sentence, from beginning to end and end to beginning – the theatre space leads its own life and is in a state of constant change. Each word is time and again put in a new context, and everything said takes on a different meaning in the constant repetition. The metamorphoses in space affect the monologue in different ways: They underscore, overcoat, blur, disturb, attack, appropriate, and prevent the meaning of the sentences. If What Could Be Is How Why Not oscillates between question and answer, doubt and confirmation, expectation and possibility. What can we hang onto when nothing fits together anymore?
