What remains if we can’t remember anything anymore?

In her most recent performance, Andrea Gunnlaugsdóttir turns back time to that summer when she was 18 and worked at a retirement home in Reykjavík. She met an elderly lady who was unable to remember anything, even her own name. Based on this experience, her new work is a performative reflection of what is remembered after everything is forgotten.

Using several elements from dance, story-telling and objects like wool blankets and a microphone, Blank Blank tackles the question whether and how identity can work without memories. The artist takes the audience by the hand and strikes off to transfer the essence of forgotten memories to the here and now.

Andrea Gunnlaugsdóttir was born in Reykjavík, Iceland. She currently lives and works in Vienna. She studied choreography at the Reykjavík Dance Academy and the Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Leeds. She also acquired a master’s degree in choreography at SEAD Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance. She has presented her works on various platforms in Austria and abroad and received a Start Stipend by the Austrian Federal Chancellor’s Office in 2015. Since 2014, she has been performing and dancing in the pieces of both Michikazu Matsune and Doris Uhlich.
